How to Prepare a Wire Harness Drawing for Quotation

A useful wire harness drawing should define the electrical connection and the physical assembly clearly enough for another party to manufacture and inspect it.

Include overall and branch dimensions, wire or cable specifications, wire colors, connector and terminal part numbers, pinout, labels, sleeves or protective materials, splice details and any special routing instructions.

Add tolerances where dimensions are critical and identify the revision level. If continuity, resistance or other tests are required, state the test criteria on the drawing or supporting specification.

If some details are still open, mark them clearly rather than leaving assumptions. This makes quotation and prototyping more efficient and reduces revisions later.
